You might think video production isn’t exactly brain surgery, unless the client is Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI). With the assistance of Kathleen Norton, BNI VP of Fund Development, Spectrum produced a fund-raising video detailing breakthroughs in neurological treatment and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). Dr. Robert Spetzler, director of neurosurgery, explained the potential DBS holds for Parkinson’s Disease, depression and Alzheimer’s. Barrow is using the video worldwide to help complete the planned center for brain treatment and research. Spectrum researched and produced the video from script to screen and coordinated crucial animation with Barrow personnel. Footage included testimonials from patients and physicians, as well as brain research footage shot live at Barrow. In keeping with Spectrum’s goal of giving back to the community, a large portion of the production, as well as staging for the video preview night, was donated by Spectrum to BNI. |

Continuing its history of promoting healthy lifestyles, Ellison Media worked with Spectrum on an infomercial for Nopalea, the first product released as part of the new TriVita Sonoran Bloom line. Nopalea is an anti-inflammatory wellness drink derived from the fruit of the Nopal cactus or prickly pear. The majority of the production was done on location at a Desert Mountain home with plenty of windows. The challenge was balancing outdoor and indoor light while shooting with windows in the background. The team decided that instead of silks and gelling the windows, tinting was the best solution. With a 10-person crew (lighting technicians, DPs, digital imaging technician, audio support, make-up and an interior designer) using two Panasonic 2/3 inch chip HD cameras, we think this product is stunning. Production coordination and management helped keep the project on budget. |

One lucky lady won the 2009 Miss Hooters Arizona Pageant, and several Spectrum team members had the pleasure of handling the video production and editing of the contest. Ken Liljegren and Steve Snow were on-site to capture the action and Robert Troub edited DVDs for each contestant. Held poolside at the Valley Ho in Scottsdale, entertainment for the 11th annual event was provided by DJ Mr. P-body. Ninety Hooters waitresses from eight Arizona locations competed in three rounds – Q&A, wearing nightclub attire and then bikinis. Rachael M. won $1,000 and a chance to compete in the Ms. Hooters International Pageant. |

Producer Gregg Housey with DP Dave Thompson and assistant Doug Schultze produced a close-up look at the latest techniques in liver surgery at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA). Dr. David Litvak performed a six-hour Laparoscopic Liver Resection at the CTCA hospital in Goodyear. The Spectrum team created a DVD, web videos and a video news release to highlight the procedure. CTCA is one of a few facilities in the country capable of this minimally invasive surgery that allows for quicker patient recovery and increased survival rates. |

Westcor is known for being a retail powerhouse in Arizona and for calling on Spectrum Video when they need something really big covered. And, this year, it didn’t get any bigger than the grand opening of Barneys New York at Scottsdale Fashion Square. From the official ribbon cutting to the “Where Fashion Becomes Art: The Mannequin is Our Muse” display, John Friesen, Dave Thompson and Reed Hohenstein spent time at the upscale shopping center covering all the angles. |

Spectrum expanded to international markets with the completion of an hour-long version of Paranormal Matrix. Originally produced as a 30-minute series, the new special gives viewers more of what they want: powerful, provocative and persuasive television investigating some of life’s strangest paranormal events. Media agents are shopping this special around the world to clients who are interested in paranormal topics. The show is a fast-paced, magazine style special that reports in-depth on multiple mind-bending issues. Emmy award-winning investigative reporter Linda Moulton Howe is the first reporter on the scene of a mysterious cattle mutilation in Colorado. The Paranormal Matrix team also chronicles a sacred Native American ceremony that changes the participants’ lives as it cleanses their souls by the light of the moon. |

Going out on location to shoot and edit is always fun for the Spectrum crew and the Best Buy convention in downtown Phoenix was no exception. They edited and uploaded presentations and trade show product booth action for BI and the Best Buy corporate headquarters. Spectrum had four edit systems on site and several camera crews per day. BI suggested the P2 acquisition format instead of tape. The solid-state recording cards held up to 60 minutes in standard definition. The biggest value of the cards is saving money on playback and recording VTRs, and the cards load twice as fast as tape. Spectrum sent on-location lead editor Robert Troub along with Antonio Chang and John Dougherty. Chewie Knecht was on hand for production support and capturing the raw footage. The client said they could not have been happier with the team. |

This fall, Dave Jones has had three of Spectrum’s edit bays going at once on his various projects including commercials for Barrett-Jackson auctions in Palm Beach, Las Vegas and Scottsdale. He is also working with Sherwin-Williams and Barrett-Jackson on a new line of special automotive paint called Planet Color, which was rolled out last week at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Las Vegas. All the editors love working with Dave and look forward his future projects. |

Infomercial producer James Elliott returned to Spectrum Video again this year with three successful projects. The first took the Spectrum team to San Diego to work with Morris Cirullo and his Financial Breakthrough Spiritual Warfare Bible. Elliott then developed a 30-minute infomercial for world renowned evangelist Sid Roth. This production performed extremely well in the initial runs and will soon see an expanded broadcast schedule. The final Elliot project brought best-selling author Michael D. Evans into the Spectrum studios. The Spectrum team constructed a set to support his infomercial effort to bring hats and coats to the poor and elderly of Jerusalem, many of whom are Holocaust survivors. |

RSVP Publications Counts on Spectrum for :30 Spot |
|
Spectrum’s versatility came to the forefront in September. RSVP Publications needed a 30-second television commercial – and they needed it fast. Spectrum’s team collaborated on scripting, visual images, actors and editing style to deliver the finished product in a week. The spot aired a few days later, just as high-quality postcards from RSVP began arriving in mailboxes throughout the Valley. |
