VBN.tv and Spectrum Video have partnered for the debut of the Virtual Venue Concert 9-11 – a live, global, on-line broadcast featuring Steve McCarty of The Steve Miller Band fame. Viewers will be treated to an organic re-release of Steve’s multi-platinum song “Wild Mountain Honey.” Spectrum will support the production with a six-camera live switch with jib, as well as the delivery of the live webcast September 11 and 21. The concert proceeds will support the Starshine Academy, benefiting disadvantaged children. Viewers will have the opportunity to win a Fender guitar autographed by the members of The Steve Miller Band. And…the first two Spectrum clients to respond to this newsletter will receive a pair of seats to the concert. (Note: Must be 21 years or older to win.) |

CDI Aerospace, a government aerospace contractor, enlisted the assistance of the Spectrum team to produce a training video on the C-5 Aircraft empennage stand, a sophisticated five-story mobile servicing center for the tail empennage of the aircraft. The five-person crew included director John Friesen, producer Gregg Housey, lighting director Mike Hall, director of photography Dave Thompson and audio tech Doug Shultze. The finished piece is being used to train operation and safety procedures at Dover AFB. No complaints from the airmen as local Arizona talent Cathy Rankin hosted the show from the comfort of Spectrum’s studio with the use of green screen technology for wrap-arounds. |

The International Council of Shopping Centers’ (ICSC) annual trade show provided an opportunity for Spectrum and client Vestar Development, the folks who bring you Tempe Marketplace and Desert Ridge Marketplace, to partner on producing property highlight videos featuring Vestar properties from across the U.S. Spectrum’s new staff compositor Antonio Chang put his unmatched skills to the test and produced high-level artistic videos for the trade show, powered at the Vestar booth by plasma screen monitors. |

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (BCBSAZ) worked with Spectrum on a critical employee communication video for the quarterly Spirit of Blue meeting. The company’s new quality management initiative – Operational Excellence – was a hit with the audience as Spectrum delivered another memorable message. Gregg Housey and Dave Ammons were instrumental in the collaboration, which included track and dolly camera moves and on-site teleprompter. Post-production by John Friesen and Antonio Chang brought the production value to another level. Spectrum demonstrated once again that we specialize in corporate communication. Rumor has it that BCBSAZ is looking forward to our next collaboration. |

Spectrum’s team was out and about earlier this year for numerous Super Bowl events. As the new football season begins we’re reminded that we ought to share the highlights. E! Television enlisted Spectrum to shoot segments of the Victoria Secret’s Super Bowl event hosted by Ryan Seacrest, including an exclusive interview with the host of “American Idol.” After mingling for awhile with the Victoria’s Secret models, Dave Thompson and Ken Liljegren were both seen smiling for a week before their bliss faded away with the Super Bowl buzz. E! Television continued to use Spectrum’s team of professionals for continuing coverage of Seacrest during Super Bowl week. Dave Jones and Mac Blink followed Seacrest around for a few days for his show, shooting opens, closes and bridges. When reminded they were able to pick up four days of exciting work, it somehow didn’t seem to lessen their disappointment for not being selected to cover the Victoria’s Secret party. And finally, our Super Bowl activity included spending time at multiple venues, including the Barrett-Jackson Automobile Auction and the Phoenix FBR Open for several promotional videos for Alliance Beverage. Alliance, one of the country’s largest liquor distributors, has counted on Spectrum time and again to deliver support on their brand marketing efforts. Our friends at Alliance also expressed their disappointment for not being selected to cover the Victoria’s Secret party. |

Who needs a bus advertisement to sell real estate? Jack LaDuke of Las Vegas-based Americor Realty dropped his helicopter on the 18th fairway of the Marriott Desert Ridge, where the Spectrum team was waiting. Director John Friesen, producer Dave Ammons, DP Dave Thompson, lighting tech Bill Kohler and audio tech Doug Shultze worked efficiently to create multiple versions of a 30-second television spot where Captain Jack promoted not only the best values in Vegas real estate, but free helicopter rides for his clients as well. |

The marketing team at the Hilton Resorts at Squaw Peak and Tapatio Cliffs invited Spectrum back to produce updated amenities videos following a fresh paint job and several renovations to the properties. Using the house Panasonic HDX 900 and crew of eight, director John Friesen and crew put together another stunning HD production for Hilton’s in-suite promotional video. The usual suspects pulled together to make art – director of photography Dave Thompson, lighting directors Mike Hall and Troy Underwood, make-up artist Allison Pynn, and production assistants Doug Shultze and Richie Rivera, and yes, Ken even showed up to carry some heavy equipment around in the blazing sun at these beautiful Arizona resorts. |

Smart Advertising Solutions once again tapped Spectrum to support its latest launch of the growing web-based business solutions market. “Will They Remember Me” is a 60-second spot that offers a humorous treatment to highlight the value of branded promotional products. Spectrum counted on the generosity of valued client Ellison Media for shooting on-location at the Ellison offices. Producer Dave Ammons once again cast the spot perfectly, including featured Spectrum “go to” talent Laura Kobar. |

Carruthers & Company, run by world-renowned Celtic dancer Laura Carruthers, brought its spectacular show to the Tempe Center for the Arts April 2-6. The Fire & Grace Dance Show was a hit as Spectrum team members Doug Schultze and Dave Thompson orchestrated a two-camera HD package with track and dolly in the orchestra pit. Director of photography Dave “Twinkle Toes” Jones, all 6’ 6” of him, managed to dodge the dancers without incident as he handled the SteadiCam on stage. |

Spectrum recently hosted American Gladiators Breaux Greer (Hurricane) and Jennifer Widenstrom (Phoenix) at its Phoenix studio to produce promotional voiceovers for Subway ads. Antonio Chang, who engineered the audio production, notes that Greer had recently competed in the Beijing Olympics as a member of the U.S. javelin team. |
